Battlemoor Prep Part 2 Food

Kerocaro/ July 21, 2019/ Events, Food & Drink, Plans/ 0 comments

So last year I was on my own for food but this year with the Canton getting its feet back under itself it was decided that hey! let’s do a meal plan! So I being opportunistic to feed people took 1 lunch and 2 Dinner shifts. I now have to feed 11 (Probably more let’s face it feeding people is a thing). We have some allergies and sensitivities to deal with along with a toddler. Said toddler has been eating me out of house and home this week so we will see how game he is for eating not Dino Nuggets. I told his Aunt if he was to much of a pest we would send him a Viking to their kitchen. I was told any boffer axes and sugar

Jocivus

AKA the event out in Byers that no one can ever pronounce, but it is really fun and I highly recommend it! It is hard to believe it has been a year since this event and I can honestly say I have grown a lot and felt much better about this year’s event! This was also the first and last time I will be camping with my sister, we had good plans and good intentions however we learned fast we don’t make good tent mates and for the sake of not doing each other in we will be splitting up for Battlemoor. That aside she did get us set up on her Don’s House’s meal plan, and I can say they saved many lives by having coffee ready every morning!

A&S Extravaganza

Kerocaro/ April 11, 2019/ A&S, Events/ 0 comments

So with Golden Thimble getting canceled less then 10 Days out, I was glad to see this fun little event pop up in its place. Basically it was planned as a weekend of all thing Arts. Located at our normal A&S space we had 2 days to basically get stuff done! Day One I had started another tunic about a week ago out of some me fabric to try out another method of Tunic making. I managed to get it cut out and sewn together the night before so I took the time to hem up the bottom. I found I didn’t like the sleeves and I had made some errors in the size of the tunic but over all it fit better and was WAY faster to make. Not

Tri- Baronial 2019-Prep

Kerocaro/ February 4, 2019/ Events, Illumination/ 0 comments

So this year was slightly different, I accepted an assignment from our baronial scribe to create an award scroll. With that and the bitter cold weather I was unable to get another round of dye in to try and compete with. Thus I deiced to simply display a piece for an entry. And of course, I decided this the week before with the assignment scroll still being worked on. What is an assignment for an award scroll? Rather simply the amazing scrolls handed out in the Outlands for the various awards and recognition, all come from very talented scribes. To keep track of all that our Baronial Scribe maintains a list of things they need done and when a willing party is found gives the details and deadline. I had

Event 101- Art and Science Compatitions

Kerocaro/ January 29, 2019/ Events, Newcomers/ 0 comments

So with our current Tri-Baronial event coming up I figured now was a good time to talk about Art and Science Competitions. So what exactly is an A&S Competitions? Unlike the fighting counter part this is a battle of Craftsman showing their skills. The two big ones I have been involved with are Queens Prize and Tri-Baronial so I will mostly be speaking on those so please offer advice for any other Competitions you have entered or won. Let us start with Entering. Queens Prize is a good event to start with, unlike the Tri-Baronial this is a more laid back event showcasing your art. The Queen will be in attendance and talking with everyone to determine a winner. Tri-Baronial is seeking a champion, a year-long position in the barony!

12th Night 2019

Kerocaro/ January 7, 2019/ Events/ 0 comments

So this year 12th Night took us to the Middle Eastern Oasis complete with a Bazaar and a Coffee Grotto and finally topped off with a dinner feast and Hafla. The whole event site was transformed and from the moment you walked in it was just magic! I had been working on a Turkish inspired outfit however due to some miss cutting, and then just time slipping away from me I didn’t get it together. I did, however, raid the Gold Key for a jacket to wear over my normal blue wool tunic so I didn’t feel too left out. I spent the morning getting settled and finishing up a few of my 12th-night gifts. Small pouches that can double as a mug cover! they are very cute and I like

Prep for 2019 Battlemoor

Kerocaro/ December 12, 2018/ Events, Plans/ 0 comments

So with the 2019 dates being announced (July 8th-14th) and my PTO safely added to the calendar, it is time to really focus on Battlemoor 2019. This year is promising to be different for several reasons the first is my sister has agreed to come with me, and with that, we will be buying a tent.  Our camp group is shaping up with different people and is looking more canton based this year! I am very excited about that as we have briefly talked about some communal dining space and we should hopefully have the ability to bring people who didn’t come last year. So were on earth do I start? Probably in our tent shopping. It sounds silly but I think I have spent more time looking at tents then any

The SCA with a Toddler

Kerocaro/ November 2, 2018/ Events, Plans/ 0 comments

For most of us, the SCA is something that you tend to think of to some extent as being a family thing. It is living history and well it isn’t like children just popped up as squiers or ladies in waiting. As crazy as it sounds, many of us wonder how exactly do I get my tiny overload out to an event and then have us survive the day? And second is it really possible to do it with period things? Absolutely! To start, children look downright adorable in garb. It is also easy to make. Pillowcase tunics,  a pair of pants add a belt and boom done. Make several because chances are you will be changing them. Also don’t be afraid to make them large, they tend to grow fast

St. Sebastian’s Archery Tournament

Kerocaro/ August 13, 2018/ Events/ 0 comments

This year St. Sebastian’s seemed to sneak up on me. Last year with no job to steal my focus I had managed to make 8 spinach and cheese tarts, 3 soft farmers cheese and drive up to the event, help serve and come home. Rather a fun undertaking as it is probably one of the nicest laid back events you can have. (And free if you are not part of the archery!) For those who have never been, it is a lovely little archery event tucked in the mountains. So far the weather holds just perfect and you can spend the day shooting at a range of imaginative targets in the lodgepole pines. And for those who don’t shoot there are plenty of benches and it is pleasant to just sit and chat or

Battlemoor 2018

Kerocaro/ July 23, 2018/ Events/ 0 comments

Well, the whole event started off with some light panic, my campmate called and let me know the weekend before that “hey by the way the truck wasn’t working therefore we didn’t have a way to tow the trailer.” Yeah. So with that, we started looking at all our options and finally settled with let us see if the van will hold the ridge poles and if it will then we can take that. After snuggling some kittens out at her folk’s place for courage we slid the first upright in and with less than a hand span between that and the back of the van we gave a cheer as this plan was going to work! Not wanting to try and set up our camp in the dark after
