Week 3 & 4 Calontir Clothing Challenge

Kerocaro/ November 9, 2020/ A&S, Calontir Clothing Challenge/ 0 comments

So I am a week behind on my original time line. But to be fair I had to wait for books and at the last minute my kid decided no I don’t want to wear my old costume I want to be a pumpkin! So week 3 was filled with runs to the fabric store and cutting out multiple things. I have decided that I need a real cutting table. My lower back was not amused with the kitchen table and the floor has catsharks who love to “help”. The Drawers Or an adventure in pants suck. I started by reading my instructions, several times before diving into a paper pattern. I found the bara tapes to be quick and easy to lay everything out. I still feel like my

A Cheesy Side Adventure

Kerocaro/ October 12, 2020/ A&S, Food & Drink/ 0 comments

When your sister shows up with just a touch over 7 cups of fresh raw goats milk, you do the only logical thing and make cheese. **The big disclaimer** If you live in the US you should per the FDA have your milk pasteurized. You can read why here. **End Disclaimer** So back to the cheese Let me start with, you can make cheese from pasteurized milk. I have done it several times. However, I have always wanted to try raw milk. From what I read it would curdle better and make a tasty cheese. But with regulations, you have to find a farm or person with milk giving critters who are willing to either share or let you co-own an animal. Possible but requires some effort. So if you

Week 1 & 2 Calontir Clothing Challenge

Kerocaro/ October 4, 2020/ Calontir Clothing Challenge, Project/ 0 comments

Week one really wasn’t a week as it started on a Thursday, but none the less it was productive. When last I had worn my Camicia I had finished the neckline quickly with a little gather along the top. It did the job up until I really started to move and clean things at the end of 12th Night. The single line of stitching over the gathering gave and thankfully at a moment I had a free hand to keep it on me. So step one was get the Camicia wearable. I still wanted the cute ruffle, not a historical choice as far as my quick research can tell. But aside from the fact it will not be judged, I have a practical need for the neckline to expand and

Now with Video Part 2

Kerocaro/ September 5, 2020/ Illumination, Project/ 0 comments

When we last left off I was waiting for packages to appear and provide me with the needed pieces for my overhead rig. I was not disappointed and by Tuesday night I had a camera in the air! Using my new-found knowledge I set the camera video settings feeling proud I could get a better-looking shot. However, lighting continued to be an issue. The LED I had picked up was in a different light color from the other two lights I was using. I also had a light glare. Some fussing with options and I finally gave up. I will sort out later on how to get less of a light reflection and fix the mix-matched lights. Worst case I just got a bed side lamp. The AC adapter did

Now with Video!

Kerocaro/ September 2, 2020/ Illumination, Project/ 0 comments

This little project is 100% a quarantine project. You stay home long enough you start to get crazy ideas. Then, you get some friends who inspire you and well before you know it is bad idea time. I decided to branch out to video. I had been playing with streaming what I was working on for A&S with little success as I found out my camera only will film for 30 minutes. So why not film several segments of me painting and post them up later? Or some basic tutorials! Or a class! Simple right? Well. No. First I needed to get a better workspace together. The folding table set up I had been using wasn’t cutting it. The table was sitting in front of half my storage and developing

New Skill- Calligraphy

Kerocaro/ August 24, 2020/ A&S/ 0 comments

For those who know me, well calligraphy is just not my thing. I have horrific handwriting to start with. Not just messy but inconsistent, letters flex and it gets worse as I try and spell anything. (This blog is a living testament to my spelling skills….). Pair that with years of bad habits and the struggle is real. However, as we drag into months of COVID I figured. Why not? I can’t really get at my usual vic…I mean loving calligraphers to write things for me. I also have the Aspiring Scribes group to bother with my attempts. I have in the past tried to do calligraphy and each time it just didn’t click. I needed baby hand holding, you have no clue level of help. Lucky the group had

Medieval ReCreationist Box

Kerocaro/ August 17, 2020/ Products/ 0 comments

With events being canceled left and right it became apparent that many of our wonderful merchants would need solid financial help this season. Enter the Medieval ReCreationist Box, lead by the wonderful Countess Slaine. This brainchild was to buy things in bulk, put them in price point boxes, and send them out to a very excited populace! I had been eyeing them after seeing the first-round go out and for my birthday I signed up for 6 months of joy! Mostly because I am HORRIBLY indecisive. I will agonize over what to get to the point of not getting it. So this was a good way to try thing out and get thing I would normally NEVER think to buy. My first box was the perfect birthday present! I got

KAOS 2020

Kerocaro/ July 20, 2020/ Project/ 0 comments

This has been a hush hush project so now that it has made it to its recipient I am happy to go over the details. Back in December, I had found a group know as the Kingdom Artisans Outlandish Swap (KAOS). After some scrolling and a bit of good timing, I found that the 14th swap was about to start! Filling out an application I was accepted and paired up with another gentle whom I was to make a household item for. I was on a banner making kick and thought perfect, I can do this. Feeling full of confidence I quickly discarded the banner idea as I realized I wasn’t as good as I would like and set about with a kitchen spice box after probably 2 months of

Stirring the Pot an Unofficial Cooks Guild Colloquium 2020 Online Event

Kerocaro/ July 13, 2020/ Events, Online/ 0 comments

This past weekend I managed to get to Stirring the Pot an Unofficial Cooks Guild Colloquium! I came across this little event courtesy Facebook and was instantly intrigued. By the time I found the event the class listing was up and with Medieval Snacks being the first listing I was sold. My husband agreed to keep kiddo amused so I was free until afternoon (Prior D&D commitments.) I was happy to have the hour difference as it let me take a few more classes. I am looking forward to the recording of the later sessions as there was a Cheese class I was very interested in. My schedule 7 Am Medieval Snacks 8 Am Preserved food (2 hours) 10 AM The Archaeology of the Roman Diet 11 AM Is Chocolate
