Arts and Science Displaying My Pandemic Work

Kerocaro/ July 12, 2022/ A&S, Events, Scribe/ 0 comments

After almost two years I was delighted to find that the Barony south of us was hosting an Arts and Science competition. Having no interest in competing for their champion (I didn’t really feel I had produced anything worth that) I opted to display the trading cards I had been painting. The first thing I needed to do was round them all up. I had most of them in envelopes as my plan had been to hand them out as favors, but a few of the recent ones had been scattered between my desks. Once gathered I settled down to organize them into something worth viewing. I chose two of the pieces to put up on acrylic signs to give my display some height and visual interest to draw people

Outlands Collegium A.S. LV

Kerocaro/ May 22, 2021/ A&S, Events, Online/ 0 comments

This past Saturday was the Outlands Collegium A.S. LV an online event held by the Kingdoms University. Feeling slightly better and figuring I could manage sitting and listening to lectures just as well as I could lay on the sofa and watch TV with the kid, I got out some garb and made a class list. I started with Modren Alchemy and enjoyed getting some of the science behind Dye. Given I never took chemistry it was interesting to see some of the “why” for what I have been doing. The next class was Happy Little B. This one was more of a paint-along ( sadly the painting had been pre-recorded.) However, it gave some great insight into how others paint. The teacher also informed us that we want permanent

Stirring the Pot an Unofficial Cooks Guild Colloquium 2020 Online Event

Kerocaro/ July 13, 2020/ Events, Online/ 0 comments

This past weekend I managed to get to Stirring the Pot an Unofficial Cooks Guild Colloquium! I came across this little event courtesy Facebook and was instantly intrigued. By the time I found the event the class listing was up and with Medieval Snacks being the first listing I was sold. My husband agreed to keep kiddo amused so I was free until afternoon (Prior D&D commitments.) I was happy to have the hour difference as it let me take a few more classes. I am looking forward to the recording of the later sessions as there was a Cheese class I was very interested in. My schedule 7 Am Medieval Snacks 8 Am Preserved food (2 hours) 10 AM The Archaeology of the Roman Diet 11 AM Is Chocolate

Online Classes- SCA

Kerocaro/ July 6, 2020/ Clothing, Online/ 0 comments

With in-person events still not happening, we have seen a massive boom in both classes and online zoom events. Unfortunately for me, many of these classes tend to happen before small child bedtime. So it has been a challenge to attend as many as I would like. Luckily there have been several that have popped up over the weekend and after bedtime. The first one I managed was Beginning Headwraps And Veils Dame Gwen the Potter hosted by Mistress Disa i Birkilundi. You can check out the class here! Mistress Disa has been hosting recorded sessions of several classes and I would recommend checking out her blog for the latest. My thoughts… As for the class I was very excited, head coverings are something I struggle with. Dame Gwen did

12th Night 2020

Kerocaro/ January 11, 2020/ Events/ 0 comments

This year’s 12th Night took us to Venice complete with masks and fancy late period garb. I did manage to get my garb to a state of done, not perfect, but done. That will be another post unto its self as I learned a lot about later period dressmaking. I got out the door and to the event on time even with some last-minute stops for snacks and coffee. Once there however getting dressed was a challenge, I had, in theory, made the closures to ladder lace but wasn’t sure how exactly to do so. Lucky Isabell was on hand and got me laced in and then offered to do my hair up. THL Isabelle uses a method of hairdressing that involves, sewing the hair in place. You can read

Caerthe Yule 2019

Kerocaro/ November 24, 2019/ Events/ 0 comments

So Yule was early this year, in part because Thanksgiving was so late and more that finding a space in Dec is a challenge. But Mother nature provided and gave a snowstorm the day before leaving things looking a lot like the Holidays. The event was with a potluck dinner, so I decided to make a stuffed pumpkin and then thanks to work not eating all the cinnamon rolls a bread pudding. The nice part was the event started at noon, so I had all morning to cook and get ready. Mind you it still took 2 attempts to get out the door. But we made it before court! I was still pinning on garb when court started but hey in SCA time that is early! Kiddo was a touch

Kingdom Arts and Sciences Collegium 2019

Kerocaro/ October 26, 2019/ A&S, Events/ 0 comments

This year’s Kingdom Arts and Sciences Collegium was to be held at the Lowery Center at CSU just a short drive up the interstate. It was also announced Queen’s Prize was to happen. It is by far one of my favorite competitions. Thus it was no question about my next event to attend was. I was smart enough to not sign up for Queens Prize, as much as I would have loved too, seeing as it had been so close to Fool’s. I instead dove into the course guide and loaded up on classes I wanted to take. My Husband was also interested once I confirmed the Archery track was happening so we decided to make a day of it with just us and talked Nana into watching Kiddo. We

Festival of Fools

Kerocaro/ October 9, 2019/ Events/ 0 comments

I will admit, some times past me is WAY to over-eager to volunteer future me for things. So when past me said, “Dude I will cook lunch!” I thought easy I can do this…..fast forward. Mundane life tossed me a few curves, I wasn’t feeling well week of and yeah past me didn’t check out our notes of responsibility and said: “Oh Oh I want a scroll!!” Yeah. Bless my silly little heart. Lucky several years of Con running made itself useful as I have a tendency to plan everything out and do so in a short amount of time. Lunch Menu Main Dish -Brats (Fresh grilled!) -Pumpkin Soup Sides- Grilled Parmesan mushrooms Grilled Zucchini A Chicken Salad Hard-Boiled Eggs Fresh fruit Bread and Herb Butter And to finish off

Fall Crown Tournament 2019

Kerocaro/ September 29, 2019/ Events, Project/ 0 comments

So on top of running this blog, I also manage our website and help moderate Social Media for our local group. Thus when his current majesty made a plea for some “fighter cards”(I am not sure what else to call them, basically a photo and who is fighting for who) and shields for Crown tournament I had a “Hey I can do that!” moment. Fast-forward to the week after Labor Day. The fighter cards, all things considered, were easy to do. I made a blank keeping with the chess theme and then plugged in each of the fighters who got me a photo and device. Those who didn’t I just place their arms and I moved on. We posted these to the Facebook group to help the populace know who

Battlemoor 2019

Kerocaro/ August 23, 2019/ Events/ 0 comments

So this year was emotional. Less than 2 weeks before my Camp Mate and good friend from last year unexpectedly passed away. Left me trying to process her passing and unfortunately due to the timing dealing with the anniversary of others who had passed on top of it. Work got crazy leaving me drained and in need of a long vacation someplace with drinks sand and palm trees. Oh and I still had to pack, and try and keep the anxiety of taking my child and husband camping for the first time in check. More so after we got the notice that the creek was running high and children and adults were to stay away from it. Yeah. Emotional was a thing. Lucky I had taken Monday off to get
